CHAOYE PACKAGING KNOWLEDGE · STRETCH FILM
Understand cast and blown stretch film manufacturing differences and how to compare their performance for industrial pallet loads.
1. Two manufacturing approaches
Cast film is produced through a flat-die extrusion and chill-roll process. Blown film is extruded through a circular die and inflated into a bubble before cooling. These processes can influence film characteristics, although final performance also depends on resin formulation and processing conditions.
2. Typical handling differences
Cast stretch film is often selected where smooth dispensing and visual clarity are priorities. Blown stretch film may be considered where toughness and load-holding characteristics are important. These are tendencies rather than guaranteed properties of every grade.
3. Noise, clarity and cling
Film unwind noise, clarity, and cling can affect packing operations. Request samples and compare under the same wrapping conditions, especially if barcode visibility, operator comfort, or automated equipment is involved.
4. Choosing for difficult loads
For sharp corners or unstable pallets, evaluate puncture resistance, tear behavior, and containment performance in a trial. Neither manufacturing method should be treated as automatically suitable for every challenging load.
5. Questions for the supplier
Ask for film type, resin grade or product family, thickness, width, roll length, core, net film weight, intended application, and available test results. Share photos and dimensions of your actual pallet loads.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is blown film always stronger than cast film?
No. Specific product formulation and measured properties are more reliable than a broad category label.
Can both be used for export pallets?
Yes, if the selected film and wrapping process meet the shipment’s load-stability requirements.
